Art Brut, a term coined by the Frenchmen Jean Dubuffet in 1945, was intended to impart the spontaneous and potent qualities of primitive expression.

In effect, Dubuffet was protesting the cultural aims of post-Renaissance and Contemporary art, and wished to substitute it with the aggressive vigor of the untrained artist.

The sharp distinction between folk art and fine art, so prevalent in America, does not exist worldwide.
The intent of this exhibit is to highlight the blending of folk art and fine art on the international scene.
