The Hurn
Museum Seeks New Frontiers
The Hurn founders are convinced that a
museum is primarily a teaching institution and only, secondarily, an
exhibition hall. Having honed their message in, “Folk Art
Manifesto,” which proclaims the meaning and power of folk art, they
now seek more direct venues to impart this conviction.
The Hurn Museum, therefore, will be
moved to major cities in the U.S. and abroad – very much like a
traveling exhibit. This approach, however, brings the Museum’s
entire permanent collection, its director, curator and teaching
staff to each designated location for fixed periods of time.
The Hurn reopens in Italy in the fall
of 2006, under the vaulted ceilings of Palazzo Fossi-Mellini in the
heart of downtown Florence.
